Barbara’s playful faces emerge from wheel thrown vessel forms. The faces themselves have very active expressions, with a sense they will transform immediately, though they are forever static. Thrown vessels have a distinct horizontal orientation, and Barbara pushes these off kilter through cutting, mashing, reassembling, messing with their gyroscopic nature, to infuse a sense of catawampus precariousness to her characters.
Using a muted palette, white on white, Barbara’s pieces maintain an elegance and focus on the personalities of her beings.
